Development.

After doing my photo shoots of ice melting as its being kicked across the ground I found that I wasn't capturing everything I wanted and I have decided to try take my idea another step further and on top of looking at ice melting over time and disappearing; I want to investigate how ice makes different forms like with ice sculptures but with my idea I will be just showing how the ice takes on different forms through time as it is melting. One example and inspiration I have is photographer Patrick Endres. I like the way he uses light to show the ice sculptures in a unique way with light.

Character modeling

Development of modeling the different parts of my character. At first the legs where just a simple oval but I added simplistic details to make the overlook of the legs better and more believable to be some odd cartoonish like characters leg. For my joints from the legs and arms to connect to the body I have decided to make it the joint with a ball so it has a wide rang of movement and it is nearly completely hidden. With this model I have basic eyes and mouth because for my animation I am going to have to be rigging up a wide range of emotions so the base model had a very plain look and/ or expression. Also the parts of the body connect with the body so the joints are quite flexible with the design if I wanted to tweak them a little bit.

Timeline.

At (1) its a shot of just the spiky ball in the sky so you know its falling from the sky. the next frame (2) you know its fallen from the sky onto the flubber and you can see the reaction it is getting from being hit by a spiky ball. not sure if you can see this in (3) but the spiky ball is twisting and trying to get out of the flubber to escape because it knows its in trouble. Frame (4) it is going for the kill and is reacting by morphing upwards to absorb/eat the spiky ball. In (5) the spiky ball is fully covered and is trying to escape by extending its spikes to break through the fubber. At (6) is the spiky balls last attempted to escape giving it all its got but as you see in (7) it was no successful and is going back to its original form. Then at (8) you see that it is now starting to eat/absorb the ball and you start to see some changes happening to the flubber and that it is actually starting to change into the rusty metal of the spiky ball. in (9) you see the conclusion and result where it has gone back to its normal form with the exception that from absorbing the spiky ball it now has some spikes of its own and even though it is still flubber it is now the same rusty metal material of the spiky ball.

scene.

With my scene I didn't think that grass was the right thing to use to I have decided for my scene to be in a wasteland. This worked out well because it was a simple scene that I could make the same way I made the grass landscape and it worked well with my artificial sky. To make sure I didn't have an overly pixilated plain I uv unwrapped my plain I wanted to put my wasteland picture on and duplicated it over and over to spread over the whole UV map in Photoshop.

Action,reaction, result.

The action which starts the conflict.

The reaction to the conflict. with this screen shot im just showing the different blend shapes im making to make my "flubber" essential absorbing the spiky metal ball.
The result: What will come out of the "flubber" absorbing the spiky ball which will be mainly the main shape of the flubber but taking on the material of the spiky ball and a few attributes as well with the few random spikes.

Materials.

This is something that took me a while because I was deciding if rock would fit the way my animation was going with at the transformations. In the end I decided that a rock material was not going to cut it because a morphing rock might not make a lot of sense to someone watching it. I wanted a more goo or flexible like material so after searching I found a material I wanted my object to be like which was flubber from the movie. this fit in nicely for all the stretching and morphing that my object had to do. I wasn't going to make it transparent though and the texture that I'm going to use for the "flubber" is car paint. With my spike ball I already knew that I was going to use a metal texture the only problem was finding one that I liked and after searching I came across rusty metal which I think looks really nice and fits with my animation.

Weapon development.

With my weapon development I decided That I wanted to have something spiky so I tried spiky sticks among other things and came across a spiky ball so I took that further and my result was the spiky ball at the front which I thought would fit very well into my animation.

development.

experiments being made with blend shapes for rock and reactions to getting hit by weapon.

I was thinking of making a sword at first to hit into the stone but after discussing this idea I came to the conclusion that the sword will be a bit to literal so I have moved away from this. Still not sure what the weapon of choice will be so I just put this random sphere thing in for the sake of the animation at this point but I do not see myself using this. I also am starting to explore ideas with the background and at the moment I have a plane which I molded with sculpt geometry to mold a plane into a type of hill and then add a basic grass material to it.

experimanting.

First attempt at making myself a rock, pretty poorly done but just messing around with the blend shapes at this stage.
